Entrance Exams to Study PG Courses After MBBS in UK

Two entrance exams help students study in the UK. These are PLAB and MRCP/MRCS. Students must appear in any of these if they wish to pursue PG in the UK. Given below are details of these entrance tests:

  1. PLAB:

Students who wish to pursue PG after MBBS in the UK may appear for PLAB. A certificate test helps students gain the GMC ( General medical council). All the students must obtain a GMC if they want to study PG in the UK.

PLAB tests whether a student is eligible for GMC registration. However, it doesn't grant any degree. It only registers the student with GMC.

  1. MRCP/MRCS

MRCS is also the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom. It is a PG medical diploma in the UK.

Students must clear the MRCP before enrolling in any higher speciality training.

The MRCP is approved for PG qualification by the GMC. After passing the MRCP, students get complete registration of GMC with a license to practice.

Entry Requirements for Medical PG In the UK

Students can enter a Medical PG in the UK via three routes. Each of these is given below, along with their details:

They introduced the comprehensive clinical MC course. It is a master's degree and training in oncology, diabetes, etc. Some benefits of this degree are:

  • The trainees of the PG degree get a GMC UK registration. Thus, they can do clinical practice along with their studies.

However, an important point to remember is that: Students who have appeared for PLAB cannot apply for this program.

  1. MRCP/MRCS

Students can appear for MRCS/MRCP to get admitted to speciality training. They must clear this exam to get enrolled. (Read above for
