US Student Visa for Sri Lanka Students

F-1 Student Visa USA

In brief, F-1 Student Visas are non-immigrant visas that allow international students to study full-time courses at US government-approved colleges, universities, seminaries, conservatories, academic high schools, and elementary schools or other academic institutions or language training institutes. With F-1 Student Visa, students can also transfer to different colleges or universities to switch educational programs after notifying the change to the USCIS. Students holding F-1 Visas are also allowed to take up part-time jobs on-campuS.

F1 Students are also entitled to undertake OPT (Optional Practical Training) for 12 months if they have applied for it. They can start their OPT once they complete their course study, i.e., after graduating. Optional Practical Training is allowed especially to help F1 students gain practical knowledge in their field of study. After completing 12 months of OPT, students must apply for a work visa to stay and work in the US. If they haven’t applied for OPT or don’t have a job, they have six months of time to stay and find work in the US with an F1 Student Visa.
