US Student Visa for Sri Lanka Students

F-1 Student Visa USA

In brief, F-1 Student Visas are non-immigrant visas that allow international students to study full-time courses at US government-approved colleges, universities, seminaries, conservatories, academic high schools, and elementary schools or other academic institutions or language training institutes. With F-1 Student Visa, students can also transfer to different colleges or universities to switch educational programs after notifying the change to the USCIS. Students holding F-1 Visas are also allowed to take up part-time jobs on-campus.

F1 Students are also entitled to undertake OPT (Optional Practical Training) for 12 months if they have applied for it. They can start their OPT once they complete their course study, i.e., after graduating. Optional Practical Training is allowed especially to help F1 students gain practical knowledge in their field of study. After completing 12 months of OPT, students must apply for a work visa to stay and work in the US. If they haven’t applied for OPT or don’t have a job, they have six months of time to stay and find work in the US with an F1 Student Visa.

  • A Valid Passport with six more months of validity beyond your period of stay.
  • Form I-20, given by your University or College.
  • Payment receipt of SEVIS I-901.
  • Recent Passport size photographs.
  • Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 students.
  • Certificate of Eligibility for M-1 students.
  • Academic Transcripts such as diplomas, degrees, and school mark certificates.
  • Score certificates of English proficiency tests such as IELTS or TOEFL.
  • Your intent to depart the United States after the completion of your study.
