How to Calculate Overall IELTS Score?

To get your IELTS score, simply subtract the mean (average) of the scores from all four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. That's the total of all the scores multiplied by four. If the average has a decimal point, it will be rounded to the next half or whole band. If the average comes out to.25, for example, it is rounded up to the next half band. As a result, if your average score is 6.25, your ultimate score will be 6.5. If the average is.75, it will be rounded up to the next whole band. As a result, if you receive a 6.75 band, your final score will be 7.

To understand how your IELTS score will be determined, look at the scoring structure below.

What is IELTS Band Score

Your English-language abilities are assessed using band scores on the IELTS test. These band scores range from 0 to 9, with each band score indicating a different English language proficiency level.

For example, a band score of 6 indicates a skilled user who has a good command of the language despite inevitable mistakes and misconceptions. In familiar contexts, they can also use and understand pretty complex language.

You will receive a band score for each section of the exam and an overall band score that is the average of your band scores for Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening in your IELTS results. Your band scores are reported as whole or half band scores, with the half or total band score rounded up to the nearest half or total band score.

If you receive a 6.5 in Reading, a 5 in Writing, a 7 in Speaking, and a 6.5 in Listening, for example, the average of these four scores are 6.25. Your overall band score would be rounded up to 6.5 based on this score.
Test Type Listening Reading Writing Speaking Average of four components (total of the four individual component scores divided by four) Band score
Test taker A 6.5 6.5 5 7 6.25 6.5
Test taker B 4 3.5 4 4 3.875 4
Test Taker C 6.5 6.5 5.5 6 6.125 6..0

The overall band score is rounded up to the next half band if the average of the four sections ends in.25, and the overall band score is rounded up to the next whole band if it ends in.75.

How Long is an IELTS Score Valid?

The validity of an IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) is two years. You have two years to transmit your IELTS results to as many universities as you like. After that, an IELTS test taker will not be able to use the
